Heritage finds harmony in this 1920s Boston home, where renovation speaks to innovation and every room is a journey in global sensibilities.
In the leafy embrace of Boston's MetroWest, a 1920s Georgian brick home stands as a testament to the power of personal narrative and the beauty of cross-cultural harmony. For Padmaja Kumari Parmar and her husband Dr Kush Parmar, this house is more than just a dwelling; it's a tangible reflection of their intertwined journeys and a vibrant canvas for their shared passions. Padmaja, a princess and descendant of the venerable House of Mewar, is the founder of Friends of Mewar, a Boston-based non-profit that emphasises preserving cultural heritage, expanding access to preventive healthcare and promoting education. Her husband Dr Parmar is a physician and entrepreneur who shares a similar Indian heritage as that of his wife, but was raised in Mexico. The couple's vision for their home was entrusted to Vani Sayeed of Vani Sayeed Studios - an award-winning multi-disciplinary design firm. A thoughtful collaboration ensued, transforming the property into a “micro-culture” – a space where global flair and deeply personal comfort coexist in elegant equilibrium.
THE JOURNEY TO HOME
Stepping through the stately front door, one is immediately enveloped in an atmosphere of understated grandeur. The home, set amidst 2.61 acres of verdant grounds, whispers tales of a bygone era, yet every carefully curated detail speaks of a contemporary sensibility informed by far-flung adventures. “As a designer, I had the privilege of collaborating with this young international family to craft a home that is both charming, deeply comfortable and based on our mutual love of beautiful old homes,” explains Vani. “This project tells their story – it’s a reflection of their heritage, their travels and their global perspective.”
