Is "WFH" still working?

The Covid-19 pandemic ushered in the Great Global Work-From-Home Experiment - a phase that has altered how we operate. But will this remain part of the future?
-
In addition to all the other effects the pandemic had on our society and our lifestyles, it changed the nature - and scope of our working lives from the great resignation' and 'quiet quitting to the rising prevalence of workfrom-home arrangements, hybrid work models (combining in-person and at-home work) and various progressive work laws.
According to human resource consultant Carol Booysen, "Many companies have found that allowing employees to choose to work from home or in the office, depending on their preferences and needs, can increase productivity, reduce costs and boost morale."
Gallup, a workplace consulting and global research firm, confirms this. It was discovered that employees who do not work in their preferred location are significantly less engaged, experience greater burnout and are likelier to quit their jobs. However, Booysen notes that "we have also observed that those who work from home experience feelings of isolation and lack of autonomy".
This is why a hybrid work model provides a more balanced approach. Employees can leave their homes and interact with others while retaining the flexibility to work from home when necessary. However, the success of hybrid work models depends on the type of work performed, employees' needs and preferences, and the organisation's culture and infrastructure.
