How to upcycle an IKEA shelving unit

Give a plain bookcase a luxe look, like Dee has done

• Begin by constructing an IKEA Billy/Oxberg bookcase with doors, but don't attach the doors just yet. You can add additional units to make a larger piece, like Dee.

• Remove any unfixed shelves and paint the whole bookcase (except for the back panel) and the unattached doors using your chosen shade of eggshell or multi-surface cupboard paint. Apply two coats, allowing them to dry thoroughly between each.

• Cut a piece of rattan webbing to fit the internal dimensions for each of the door panels. Apply a light coat of spray adhesive to the back of the webbing and gently press it into position on the door fronts.
