THIS SPACE CAN BE SO MUCH MORE THAN A BOLT-ON SUN TRAP, BUT IF YOU NEED HELP IN MAKING YOURS FEEL LIKE HOME, OUR EXPERTS HAVE THE ANSWERS

Year-round conservatory

The conservatory today is no longer simply a place to sit on a sunny day (often with the blinds down as it's too hot). With a fresh approach to practical design solutions and the need for a hardworking home, it can become so much more. Unsure where to start remodelling your conservatory? We asked a blinds expert, a furniture brand CEO and an interiors/gardens stylist to share their expertise.

THINK ABOUT USE

'Whether your conservatory is a sun-drenched nook, a quiet morning retreat or a place to gather with friends, your intention for the space will guide every choice,' says Alex, while Rachel says: 'Pinning down your goals helps shape everything from furniture choices to window treatments. Once you know the “why”, think about the “feel”. 'Conservatories are naturally light and airy, so I'd lean into that,' she adds. 'Light-toned flooring, botanical accents and layered textures (think wicker, linen and pale woods) help keep things fresh but grounded.' Selina recommends gathering the images and swatches that you like to create a decorating and styling concept. 'It's also a good idea to draw up a rough layout of where larger items of furniture will be positioned.'

Rachel adds: 'I recently saw a garden room turned into a music studio with acoustic panels disguised as wall art; and a dining space with the ceiling dressed in sheer blinds and pendant lighting, making it feel like an Italian terrace.'
