When it comes to durable cookware, there's no beating cast iron. But there are some things you should know before investing. Ensuring your pan is well cared for is key to making it last as long as possible. To prevent rusting, season the pan (see manufacturer's instructions), then wipe away excess oil and store the pan in a dry place, free from steam and water.

In many cases, putting cast-iron cookware in the dishwasher is not recommended as it will strip the seasoning. However, a lot of the best cast-iron cookware is enamelled, which means it has a layer protecting it from rusting and won't season in the same way. Spinning allows for very accurate manufacturing, thinner sides and a highly consistent material density, which gives very even cooking.
