JUST ADD BUTTER

The rise of soft yellow continues and it's one of the most versatile and uplifting hues for kitchens
-

MODERN TIMEST
In this Covent Garden apartment, Hollie Bowden demonstrates how to take classic butter yellow in a more contemporary direction. The soft, mellow cabinetry is imbued with a graphic precision via flat front doors and retro hardware, while the hue warms the compact space without overpowering.
'We chose this buttery yellow to enhance the neutral palette and add some lustre,' explains Hollie. A tubular stainless steel extractor and steel worktops introduce bold industrial overtures, their polished surfaces shining brightly against the matt yellow below. A pair of Shiro Kuramata's Sing Sing Sing Chairs for XO anchors the scheme, their mesh and chrome frame lending a playful nod to the apartment's mid-century modern feel. In this kitchen by Makers, Mylands’ soft Golden Square yellow leads a spirited palette of pretty pastels. Pale mint columns frame open shelving, while blush-pink walls softly recede behind. Lavender-hued plates and pale aqua ceramics introduce cool, calming notes that prevent the space from feeling overly saccharine. A slender oak ladder lends organic texture. ‘We knew the colour mix was going to be the main story, so we kept the cabinet design sleek and understated,’ says Lizzie Spinks, head of design, Makers. “The pastel palette combined with contemporary cabinetry is so refreshing and fun, while the ladder creates a unique feature.’ Bronze accents – on the ladder rail and recessed handles – anchor the composition, allowing the pastels to sing in perfect harmony. Bespoke kitchens start at £40,000, Makers. Painted in Golden Square (cabinets), French Green (columns) and Floris (walls) multi-surface eggshell, £111.75 for 2.5ltr, Mylands
