This month, interior designer Joy Moyler shares the benefits of making a mood board to help a space come to life

Joy is a US-based designer but her work takes her all over the world. Now running her own studio – Joy Moyler Interiors – she has over 25 years of experience and a degree in architecture. She is celebrated for her use of colour and pattern.

For me, there are two important initial steps for designing a home, hospitality or commercial project. The first step for any client presentation is the mood board. It is the vessel for development of the palette and finishes later. It occurs in the 'concept phase'.
