A North Fork state of mind
Country Living
|June - July 2025
A New York City couple spends weekends a world away from the hustle at their charming cottage on the pastoral East End of Long Island.
A new fence, stair railing, and landscaping added much-needed curb appeal to Dan Mazzarini and Andy Grover's coastal cottage. “I wanted to see how many boxwoods I could fit,” says Dan. The 1980s Mercedes is one of Dan’s best local finds. “I saw it on the side of the road with a For Sale sign,” he says. “I thought it was the car model from the movie Beaches, so I bought it the next day. Turns out it wasn’t, but I love driving it around all summer long.”
A flip-top French dining table in the entry offers a spot to stash keys and mail. Above it, a large zinc mirror from local design shop Lumber + Salt (lumber andsalt.com) reflects light into the space.LEFT: A glossy Dutch door allows Andy (left) and Dan to be on the lookout for guests. The couple added bluestone pavers and industrial lighting (hvigroup.com) to warm up the welcome.
ABOVE: Because the kitchen is quite small, a pine wardrobe from another local North Fork shop, White Flower Farmhouse (@whiteflowerfarmhouse), comes in handy as a makeshift pantry for glasses, plates, and platters. “Our contractor told us it used to be an actor’s traveling wardrobe case,” says Dan. “It comes apart, so you would just throw it up and hang costumes in there wherever you landed.”
