Contemporary artist Bridget Lansley applied her love of colour and composition to transform a run-down clapboard house on the Isle of Wight into a stunning seaside home

A slower pace of living than the fast, frenetic mainland was a part of her decision when artist Bridget Lansley purchased an American-style house on the Isle of Wight. A short ferry hop across the Solent and the serenity of island life is within reach. ‘What I like best is the feeling of escaping the busy mainland,’ explains Bridget. “The sea view and relaxing holiday feel is a wonderful combination, together with walks on the beach, which is just a five-minute walk away down a track from the house.’

With its smartly painted clapboard exterior, the house boasts an imposing position overlooking Bembridge, providing superb views of the harbour and to the mainland. ‘I decided to buy it as the location was ideal; however it was clear the house needed major changes and internal renovation,’ she says. ‘But to have a sea view is a rare luxury, so I knew it would be worth the effort.’
