Christmas at Amandine and Jules Fernandez Berthon's country retreat is all about simple yet joyful traditions

In the Charente home of Amandine and Jules Fernandez Berthon, Christmas centres on the dining table, where the family gathers to enjoy festive dishes served on heirloom porcelain once belonging to Amandine's grandmother.

'This house is full of things that remind us of our families, along with traditions that take us straight back to childhood,' says Amandine.

'On Christmas Day, for instance, we always have an afternoon tea of brioches and thick hot chocolate - a custom from southwestern France passed down from my grandmother." Set in idyllic countryside, the house is just 15 kilometres from the couple's main residence in a town close to Angoulême.
