AIOCD, RDCA back crackdown on MTP, narcotics drug misuse

November 27, 2025

A coordinated and stringent regulatory push is underway across India, driven by both the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) and the regional trade body in the national capital territory, the Retail Distribution Chemists Alliance (RDCA), to enforce strict compliance with drug sale regulations and curb misuse.

- Peethaambaran, Chennai

The efforts, highlighted by a recent advisory from the Delhi Drugs Control Department (DCD) and a strong press note from the AIOCD, target the regulated sale of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) kits and the illegal trade of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) like codeine-based cough syrups. This unified front underscores the commitment of the pharmaceutical trade to support the government's public health goals.

The AIOCD, representing over 12.4 lakh chemists nationwide, issued a firm condemnation of recent incidents involving the illegal trade and misuse of narcotic cough syrups and other psycho tropic/habit-forming medicines.
