Summer 2025

Photo assignments in Champagne are usually enjoyable, writes Jon Wyand, but this time it was less so, and something of a challenge

Capturing Fred Panaïotis in the Midst of Workmen at Champagne Ruinart

Assignments in Champagne usually come with a hint of hedonism to be enjoyed. I always, well nearly always, feel rather spoilt and try not to think what my great grandfather and grandfather, both presbyterian ministers, would have thought. The latter, a padre during the First World War in France, would, I expect, have looked away and simply counselled moderation among all things... But “moderation” is not a word you hear in Champagne houses who are demanding customers, fastidious about imagery and brand values so it can be anything but an easy ride.
