START SMALL

Socialization can start with short and simple interactions. When you're petting your pup, spend some time gently handling their paws, mouth, and tail. Invite your furry friend to interact with different sights, sounds, and textures around the house. Gradually work your way up to new people, animals, and experiences outside your home, like car rides and trips to the park. “If you'd like for your dog to be comfortable there as an adult, you should try to give them good experiences there as a puppy,” says Annie Valuska, PhD, a principal scientist for Purina.
