The pick of the pack

Whether it is parading in the main ring at Peterborough or performing on the flags at the puppy show, hounds always rise to the occasion, say Neil and Serena Cross

THIS MONTH sees the 137th Peterborough Royal Foxhound Show take place under the banner of the Festival of Hounds at the East of England Showground. This venerable institution was founded in 1878 by the Marquis of Huntly, and the first event was held at the Peterborough Agricultural Show under the patronage of the Prince of Wales. The show received its Royal title in 1934 and has gone through name changes, mergers of its host societies and venue moves. It now exists as a stand-alone event in a league of its own and showcases the very best of houndflesh from foxhounds to fell hounds, bassets to beagles and even a picnic competition.
