CHARLOTTE JORDAN on swapping the cobbles for the countryside

- ALISON SLADE.

From Weatherfield to AMBRIDGE

THE ARCHERS SUNDAY-FRIDAY, 7PM, BBC RADIO 4 SOAP

Charlotte Jordan has gone from starring in the world's longest-running soap opera on TV to the world's longest-running soap opera on radio. Having left her role as Coronation Street minx Daisy Midgeley in May, the actor is now ruffling feathers as Amber Gordon in BBC Radio 4's farming-based drama The Archers, which will notch up 75 years on the airwaves next January. In an exclusive chat with TV Times, Charlotte lifts the lid on life Ambridge way, and reveals why the show would be lost without a couple of yogurt pots...

Charlotte, you arrived in the fictional village of Ambridge on 25 June. For anyone who hasn’t tuned in yet, tell us about your character, Amber...

Amber is this hurricane who comes into the Grundys’ lives. She's been George's secret girlfriend for a while now, and she’s totally in love. She's the opposite of the Grundys - the anti-Grundy! She’s never done a day’s farming in her life; she’s a fake-lashes-and-fake-tan kind of gal.

But she’s desperate to make a good impression and be accepted as part of the family, even though she tends to have a case of foot-in-mouth and is somewhat oblivious to how she rubs people up the wrong way.

What can we expect from her in the coming weeks?

She's going to have a complicated dynamic with the Carters, particularly Neil. George sees them as being responsible for putting him behind bars [George served time for a car accident that happened when he found Alice Carter drunk at the wheel and decided to drive her home], and, therefore, Amber sees them as being responsible, too. I'm sure the hostility won't go down well with listeners, as Neil is a fan favourite!
