As a teenager, Canadian comedian Mae Martin, seen on Taskmaster in 2023, experimented with drink and drugs, dropped out of school and was kicked out of the family home. Now, the BAFTA-nominated actor, writer and recording artist has created and stars in a new drama about similarly troubled youngsters.

In eight-part series Wayward, the non-binary Martin stars as city cop Alex who is trying to put a disturbing incident in the line of duty behind him as he moves to the Vermont town of Tall Pines where his pregnant wife Laura (Sarah Gadon) grew up.
