Luke Grimes trades his lasso for law enforcement in a Yellowstone spin-off series
-
NEW DRAMA
Marshals: A Yellowstone Story
From Mon 2 March, Paramount+ (released weekly)
Buckle up, Yellowstone fans. The dust may have settled on the hit western saga, but the youngest Dutton sibling, ex-Navy SEAL and complicated cowboy Kayce, is leaving the family ranch for pastures new in a 13-part sequel series.
Marshals: A Yellowstone Story picks up after the flagship show's fifth run, when Kayce (Luke Grimes), heir to the late John Dutton’s cattle empire, cut a deal with Chairman Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and the Broken Rock tribe, selling off the majority of his land.
Now, Kayce is dusting off his Stetson and pinning on a star-shaped badge as he joins an elite US Marshals unit.
'Wrapping on Yellowstone was a bigger moment in my life than I thought it would be,' says Ohio-born actor and country-music singer Grimes. 'It was really emotional and, in a way, like losing a family. I don't think the fans wanted it to be over.'
But when Grimes was approached with the idea for a sequel, the 42-year-old actor admits he was in two minds about any possible projects.
NEW DIRECTION
'In Yellowstone, the end of Kayce’s story was perfect for him. He got what he always wanted: to be a guy of the land, a cowboy and his own little slice of heaven with his family, so I wasn't going to just do a spin-off. We had to make it make sense,' he explains.
'I thought the idea of Marshals opened up the whole world for Kayce. Plus, he's not the only character from Yellowstone in the show. There'll be some people you know and love.'
