THE BUZZ ON WHAT TO WATCH, READ & LISTEN TO THIS WEEK!
Scrubs
The chemistry among the original cast members is as good—and as funny—as ever in the revival
SERIES
For the first time since the events of the original Scrubs series finale in 2010, J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison), Elliot (Sarah Chalke), Carla (Judy Reyes) and Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) are once again together at Sacred Heart Hospital. While it feels like no time has passed, a lot has changed—particularly for J.D., who works as a concierge doctor. Still, the new revival is teeming with full-circle moments and nostalgic notes, especially as J.D. and Turk fly through the halls with their classic “Eagle!” move or Dr. Cox spews long-winded rants at the new interns who are exactly where J.D., Turk and Elliot began their journey as doctors 25 years ago.
While remaining true to who they were, the characters display personal and professional growth, with a once-timid, naive J.D. shifting from mentee to mentor and the previously overconfident Turk facing burnout. Balancing comedy, grief and love, the new episodes are honest and grounded in a sense of reality that the original series lost toward the end of its run. —LIZA ESQUIBIAS (Wednesdays on ABC)
DreamsMOVIE
Wealthy socialite Jennifer McCarthy (Jessica Chastain) obsesses over her secret erotic affair with undocumented Mexican ballet dancer Fernando (Isaac Hernández). Chastain’s emotionally cold performance holds an already uncomfortable, patronizing power dynamic together with a tense thread, ready to snap at any moment. —BRENDAN LE (In theaters Feb. 27)
