When the Bear breakout star Ayo Edebiri wore a boxy gray pantsuit to this year’s Golden Globes, style experts noted the resemblance to Julia Roberts’s famous Armani suit from the Globes back in 1990. “It wasn’t a coincidence,” says Edebiri. Adds Roberts with a laugh: “Are you kidding? It’s my biggest fashion moment!” The two first met when Roberts invited costars Edebiri, Chloë Sevigny, Andrew Garfield and director Luca Guadagnino to her home for two weeks of rehearsal before filming their new thriller After the Hunt, in which Roberts plays a steely Yale professor and Edebiri her student protégée. Offscreen, Roberts, a mom of three with husband Danny Moder, bonded with Boston-born actress on the rise Edebiri. They share not only a love for oversize blazers but also October birthdays (Edebiri turned 30 on Oct. 3, and Roberts turns 58 on Oct. 28) and a warm playfulness. Says Roberts: “Not going to let this one get away!”
