THE AGE OF ELEGANCE

Following the marriage of Queen Victoria's eldest son Albert Edward to Princess Alexandra of Denmark in 1863, the British monarchy underwent a transition from the sombre court of the mournful Victoria to a modern, opulent centre of glamour and elegance. Albert inherited the crown after Victoria's death in 1901, becoming King Edward VII, and with Queen Alexandra at his side the fashionable Edwardian court thrived.
