What's new in iOS and iPadOS 26.1

iOS 26 finally received its first 'point update', with iOS 26.1 (and iPadOS 26.1) landing on iPhone and iPad in November 2025 - and it's packed, too.

iOS 26.1 (and iPadOS 26.1) enables you to change the look of Liquid Glass, brings welcome changes to the Photos app, and has new options in Settings. There's also a new way to turn off the Lock Screen swipe gesture that gives faster access to your iPhone's camera - a welcome change for anyone who's accidentally been looking up their nose with the selfie camera because of an errant swipe.

iPad users can also finally use Slide Over after it was removed. It's now back, and fits in with the updated windowing system - ideal for having an app to one side for reference, or your social media feed of choice.

To install iOS 26.1 on iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update, then follow our tutorial for a complete rundown of all changes and improvements.

HOW TO See what's new in iOS/iPadOS 26.1

Tweak Liquid Glass

The Liquid Glass see-through look isn't for everyone. To make things easier to see, go to Settings > Display and select Tinted for a more opaque look with increased contrast; you might find this makes your iPhone or iPad easier to use.
