Dazzling in a plunging Miu Miu silver gown, Sydney Sweeney gushed about the tight bond she has formed with Amanda Seyfried, her The Housemaid costar, at the film's New York premiere on December 2.

“Amanda and I became sisters. She was the bestest friend ever. We have so much fun together,” she told Variety on the red carpet. “And I actually think that when you have a scene partner and actor that you can have fun with and you feel safe with and free ... it actually makes those scenes even better, because you feel safe and free to go crazy, explore new things, and you're not going to feel judged.”

Since becoming a household name, thanks to breakout roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus - and earning Emmy nominations for both in 2022 - Sweeney, 28, has learned firsthand what it feels like to be scrutinised. Her personal life, collaborations and physical appearance are often a hot-button topic for online chatter, and while she tries to tune out the noise, she took the opportunity to directly address some of the gossip during a December Allure interview with Seyfried. Asked to debunk a “beauty rumour” in a video segment, Sweeney didn't hesitate. “Let's debunk them all. I mean, I have never gotten work done,” she said, adding that her fear of needles rules out elective procedures. “You cannot compare a photo of me from when I was 12 to a photo of me at 26 with professional makeup and lighting! Of course I'm going to look different... Everybody on social media's insane.”

Sweeney found herself at the centre of another social media firestorm in July when her American Eagle campaign - “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” - prompted a fierce debate over whether the ad was intentionally racially charged. “I was honestly surprised by the reaction,” Sweeney told
