STEERING A COURSE TO SUCCESS

LIZZY QUINN HAS SAILED STORMY WATERS TO CREATE A CHAIR FIT FOR A CAPTAIN

Lizzy Quinn was at the beach a few years ago, trying to unwind, but instead of feeling relaxed and comfortable, she was bothered by her back.

“I had a canvas camping chair and I was slouched into it. My back hurt and I was uncomfortable,” Lizzy, 46, tells WHO.

The mum-of-three from Brisbane wanted to buy something better for her beach days, and when she couldn't find anything on the market, she realised that being a physio qualified her for the task of creating one.

“I started sketching,” she says. “I knew what I wanted but it’s very difficult to make a folding chair that’s ergonomic. That’s why it had not been made until now.”

What she'd assumed would be a quick process turned into a four-year-long struggle. She worked with an industrial designer, and every spare moment, she'd make tweaks until they had a design to make into a prototype.
