THE CRIME AUTHOR'S BIGGEST FAN GETS A STARRING ROLE IN HIS LATEST NOVEL

Queen Camilla has two favourite authors. Unsurprisingly, one is Jane Austen, the writer of British classics such as Pride and Prejudice and Emma. The other is Peter James, the man behind the bestselling crime series featuring Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, which has also been made into a hit drama called Grace.

“Shortly after becoming Queen, she wrote asking if I might set a Roy Grace novel in London,” James tells WHO. “Well, things have not ended well for people who’ve disobeyed past Queens of England. So I started thinking about it and I thought what better place in London than Buckingham Palace?”

The result is The Hawk Is Dead. The story follows the policeman as he investigates an attack on the royal train, while the Queen is on board, which has left one of her aides dead. Despite all the evidence, Roy isn’t convinced Her Majesty was the intended target and soon finds himself facing mortal danger.
