FROM SEANCES TO TAROT CARDS, THE ROYALS CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FUTURE

For royals, their fates are often sealed from the order of their birth, so it’s no wonder that many have a fascination with all things to do with destiny. The desire to connect with the spiritual world can be traced back through generations of Britain’s reigning family.

Bereft with grief following the death of husband Prince Albert in 1861, Queen Victoria participated in seances to speak to her beloved. Almost a century later, her great-great-granddaughter Queen Elizabeth II did the same when, in 1953, the Queen Mother wanted to make contact with George VI, who had passed away the year before.

No-one in the royal family, however, has ever seemed to have been as reliant on spiritual guidance as Princess Diana.

“A garrulous procession of astrologers, psychics, palm readers and graphologists toted their charts and crystal balls into Kensington Palace,” journalist Tina Brown wrote in The Diana Chronicles.
