"When I first read the book ... I had just had my firstborn and there's not really anything like postpartum," Lawrence said at a May 18 festival press conference for the adaptation of the 2012 novel by Argentine author Ariana Harwicz about a new mother who slips into psychosis. "It's extremely isolating ... the truth is extreme anxiety and extreme depression is isolating, no matter where you are. You feel like an alien."

Lawrence, 35, who welcomed son Cy with husband Cooke Maroney in February 2022, was five months pregnant with her second baby, a son born in March, while shooting the Lynne Ramsay-directed film, which Lawrence also co-produced.

"Having children changes everything. It changes your whole life. It's brutal and incredible. And not only do they go into every decision of, if I'm working, where I'm working, when I'm working, they've taught me... I didn't know that I could feel so much," continued Lawrence, who hasn't publicly shared her youngest baby's name, but was spotted carrying a beaded keychain with the names “Louis” and “Cy” while walking in New York in September.

"My job has a lot to do with emotion, and they've opened up the world to me. It's almost like feeling like a blister or something. So sensitive."

Pattinson, who welcomed a daughter with his partner, actress and singer Suki Waterhouse, in March 2024, chimed in, "I think in the most unexpected way, having a baby gives you the biggest trove of energy and inspiration afterwards," to which Lawrence responded with a laugh, "You get energy?!"
