In the wake of a handful of devastating wildfires that have ripped through Southern California, razing entire neighbourhoods of Los Angeles with flames propelled by hurricane-force winds since January 7, survivors are sifting through what's left. One of those is This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia, who, as he stood in the charred remains of his Malibu home's kitchen, told CBS Evening News, "Your heart just breaks."

After evacuating with his pregnant wife, Jarah Mariano, and their dog on January 7, the 47-year-old actor watched their house burn down via security cameras. "There's a kind of shock moment where you're going, 'Oh, this is real. This is happening."

His This Is Us co-star Mandy Moore shared her own update from her street in the neighbourhood of Altadena. "Everyone we know lost everything. Every house on our street is gone," she posted. "Miraculously, the main part of our house is still standing. For now. It's not livable but mostly intact...
