A look behind Traitors' gates

With an array of famous faces trying to make their mark in The Celebrity Traitors, new looks behind the scenes to discover some of the secrets and lesser known facts about the hit show

ARDROSS CASTLE

The owners, the McTaggart family, have had the castle, situated in the Scottish Highlands, since 1983 and rent it out for weddings and corporate functions outside of when The Traitors is filmed.

Some sections of the castle remain unconverted and all the filming takes place in the section that has been made comfortable. “Once the players come we give them free rein,” says executive producer Mike Cotton. “We never tell them where to go or what to do. It's free-flowing.”

CAUGHT ON CAMERA

A lot of the action is captured on remote cameras so there are as few camera crew members as possible.

“We don't want them interacting with the crew – we want them in this immersive bubble,” Mike explains.

Chatting to the crew and asking for tips or advice is actively discouraged. Once they start, they film one episode a day, with the grand final shot over two days.

MENTAL HEALTH

There are psychologists on hand to help any players, celebrity or otherwise, who end up feeling overwhelmed by their experience on the show. These welfare teams are based where the players stay.
