It's been more than four years since Prince Harry and Meghan made the heavy decision to step down from their roles as senior royals and begin a new chapter in California.

INSIDE THE WORLD OF PRINCE HARRY WHAT THE DUKE OF SUSSEX IS DOING NOW AND WHETHER A ROYAL REUNION IS IN HIS FUTURE

Since then, the world has watched the duke experience many of life's ups and downs, from the joyous birth of his daughter, Lilibet, in 2021 a little sister for Archie - to the heartbreaking death of his beloved "Granny," the Queen, in 2022. And, of course, there's the ongoing tension between the Duke of Sussex and his family - exacerbated by the release of his tell-all memoir, Spare, last January that he's had to navigate in the public eye, too.

Recently, however, with his father and sister-in-law both battling cancer and his wife teasing the launch of her own business, American Riviera Orchard (page 64), it seems Harry, 39, has taken a back seat. And it begs the question: Where does the prince fit in, and where does his future lie? Is he as relevant outside the Royal Family as he was within it?

Very much so, says royal biographer Christopher Andersen, author of The King: The Life of Charles III. "There is this bizarre assumption that Meghan is a powerhouse and Harry is at a loose end, looking for something meaningful to do.

"On the contrary, Harry is involved in countless causes, ranging from mental health to homeless veterans, substance abuse, the environment 26 charities and counting," says Christopher, noting that the duke's Invictus Games, which will take him back to British Columbia next year (where he and Meghan lived for a few idyllic weeks before their move to the U.S.), is at the forefront of it all. "The man is clearly very busy."
