Motherland star Tanya Moodie on how a painful break-up led her to learn from her children and react in new ways

As dramatic storylines go, Tanya Moodie's last family Christmas could have come straight from Motherland. Just as the actress, who plays Meg in the hit BBC show, was settling down to dinner with all the trimmings, her partner of eight years announced that he wanted to end their relationship.

Talking for the first time about the split on HELLO!'s Second Act podcast, Tanya, 53, says: “My last relationship ended very recently; basically, Christmas Day. We ended up finishing the meal, put it that way. Presents were opened. I didn't feel as though [splitting at Christmas] was so unusual. It's standard.”
