Here's my conundrum: I love a clean, tidy house, but I hate housework. I know there are some people who embrace domestic duties with the kind of zeal I'd save for an 80%-off Net-a-Porter sale or a hammam with Jamie Dornan; I've even met some. Britney Spears (casual namedrop) told me decades ago that she loved nothing more than blitzing her bathroom with bleach.

Still, I know I have to vacuum, scrub, scour and wash, so I've created tactics to motivate me, to ease the ennui and make it tolerable, sometimes even enjoyable. These hacks are mostly centred around pleasing smells, satisfying aesthetics or bougie products.

I can also, with some mental gymnastics, convince myself that cleaning is a wellness ritual.
