The Duke of Sussex hosts the WellChild Awards in London again and meets the King in a sign that reconciliation may be on the cards

It has been five years since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left Britain, and the dust has started to settle on their exit from the Firm.

In 2025, they refrained from making further revelations about the royal family, while Prince Harry took an important step towards reconciliation: face-to-face talks with the King over tea at Clarence House.

The reunion on 10 September was the first time that father and son had met since a brief visit in February 2024, following the King's cancer diagnosis. It was reported to have been under consideration for some time, and the opportunity arose when the Duke visited the UK to fulfil charity commitments.

Harry had flown into London two days earlier, on the third anniversary of the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and had gone straight to Windsor Castle to lay flowers on her tomb. With the beloved matriarch no doubt foremost in the minds of both Harry and his father, they would have had an extra reason to try to heal their rift.
