The Suddenly I See singer KT Tunstall reflects on turning 50 and her quieter green life in Santa Fe

- NICKY MORRIS

A YEAR OF MILESTONES

KT Tunstall is having her busiest year to date.

The Brit Award-winning Scottish singer – who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with her partner, Chris Light - has turned 50, written the score for her first West End musical, Clueless, and re-released her debut album, Eye To the Telescope, to mark its 20th anniversary.

Although reissuing the album, with three new tracks, has been like “celebrating an old mate”, KT is already looking to new challenges. “I’m aware of how lucky it is to get to this age and feel very fulfilled,” she says. “But I don't like repetition. There's so many other things that I'd like to learn and do.”

KT grew up in St Andrews, Fife, and was catapulted to international fame after her 2004 hit Suddenly I See was featured on the soundtrack to the 2006 blockbuster The Devil Wears Prada. Now she’s working on a new track, which she hopes will be used in the forthcoming film sequel. Here, the musician, who was awarded an honorary doctorate of environmental science by Royal Holloway, University of London in 2011, marks Earthshot week by speaking to HELLO! about her sustainable lifestyle, embracing grey hair and how an embarrassing encounter with Jon Bon Jovi confirmed that she'd “made it” as a rock star.

KT, how do you live sustainably?
