Boatman dunked for dolphin killing spree

FISHY Zackary Barfield found himself on the hook for a hefty fine and 30 days behind bars after the charter boat captain killed multiple dolphins in Florida, authorities say.

Barfield, 31, was ordered to do time and to pay a $51,000 penalty for three counts of poisoning and shooting dolphins in violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act.

Lawmen say in December 2022 and the summer of 2023, the Panama City sea dog saw hungry dolphins snacking on red snapper from his clients' fishing lines — and on both occasions used a 12-gauge shotgun to fire at the marine mammals that surfaced near his vessel, killing one right away.
