Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): A Serious Problem for the Individual and the Society

This is not an uncommon occurrence, as up to three-quarters of individuals who face perilous situations may experience a particular condition referred to as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that occurs in some people who have experienced shocking, frightening, or dangerous events. Early detection and proper treatment are essential to address this condition's impact on individuals and society.

What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that develops in individuals exposed to traumatic events. The body's "fight-or-flight" response to fear during and after a traumatic situation is natural. While most people recover from initial trauma-related symptoms over time, individuals with PTSD experience persistent and disturbing thoughts and emotions related to the event.

People with PTSD have intense and disturbing thoughts and feelings related to their experience that persist long after the traumatic event is over. They may relive the event through flashbacks or nightmares; They may feel sad, scared, or angry; They may become detached or withdrawn from other people. People with PTSD may avoid situations or people that remind them of the traumatic event, and they may have strong negative reactions to something as normal as a loud noise or an accidental touch. A diagnosis of PTSD requires exposure to an upsetting traumatic event. Exposure includes experiencing an event firsthand, witnessing a traumatic event happen to others, or learning that a traumatic event has happened to a close family member or friend.
