A sixfold rise in production, booming phone exports and fresh component investments is shifting India from assembler to global electronics maker.

The hum of factory floors in Chennai and Bengaluru now sounds different. It carries confidence that was hard to hear a decade ago. Electronics production in India rose to about Rs. 11.3 lakh crore in financial year 2024-25, nearly six times the level of 2014-15, and that surge is remaking supply chains, jobs and export opportunities.
That headline number is driven by a dramatic rise in mobile phone manufacturing. Production of mobile phones climbed from small beginnings to roughly Rs.5.45 lakh crore in 2024-25, and mobile exports alone reached around Rs. 2 lakh crore in the same year. The export story is especially striking because it shows how India has moved from assembling low volumes to supplying major global markets.
