Used Planter Prices Falling

Value can be found if you need to replace or update your row crop planter.

With planting season weeks away, you might be surprised to learn that retail and auction prices of used row crop planters are trending lower.

Compared with 2024, the retail prices of used 24-row planters have dropped an average $10,000 — almost 4% — and auction prices have fallen $30,000 per planter — 19%. The drop in auction values likely represents fewer high-spec machines being auctioned in 2024, according to Andy Campbell, director of insights for Tractor Zoom. He said the supply of used planters was down 31% in 2025, compared with 2024.

In December 2025, a search on TractorHouse for used 2015–2025 model year 24- to 36-row Case IH, John Deere, and Kinze planters returned 376 retail listings and 66 auction results. The average retail price was $283,150, the highest price was $616,100, and the lowest was $48,500. Auction data showed an average price of $151,130, with the highest, $399,000, and the lowest, $21,321.

Why Upgrade Now?

“The average number of row units on a dealership planter is 22–23. That number dropped slightly in 2025, likely due to many larger planters being moved in 2024, and a trend of fewer new orders for planters in the past few years,” Campbell said. “We’re in a period of good opportunities to purchase a used planter. Supply is low, which usually means higher values, but there is still downward pressure on the used equipment market, and that’s keeping prices down, for now. Since there haven’t been many new planter orders over these past few years, the availability of choices may be slim, but if you find what you need, you probably will not find a better time to buy, with the lower prices.”
