2025: A YEAR WHEN INDIA'S LOGISTICS BECAME A GLOBAL FORCE
Logistics & SCM
|December 2025
Amid escalating geopolitical uncertainties, India's logistics sector underwent a major reset in 2025, powered by GST 2.0, PM Gati Shakti, etc., emerging as a trusted supply chain destination
-
India's logistics sector in 2025 stands at a remarkable inflection point, marking a year defined by reform, resilience and reinvention.
As the Indian economy crossed the USD 4.1 trillion milestone, logistics moved from the background of economic activity to the forefront of national capability. What began as a cautious year soon evolved into one driven by sweeping policy changes, multimodal integration, new maritime legislation, major investments showcased at India Maritime Week, and an unprecedented digital leap across supply chains.
On the global front, disruptions in the Red Sea, shifting trade alignments and rising protectionism forced countries to rethink their supply chain strategies, and India emerged as one of the most resilient and strategically positioned markets. Logistics transitioned from being merely an economic enabler to a sector shaping India's competitiveness and geopolitical relevance.
The industry, valued at USD 215 billion in 2024, is expected to close 2025 at nearly USD 380 billion, growing at a robust pace of 10.5 per cent. This sharp rise can be attributed to three core forces—deep institutional reforms, rapid infrastructure integration under PM Gati Shakti, and the explosive expansion of digital commerce supported by a fast-growing 3PL ecosystem.
BIG BUDGET BOOST
The Union Budget 2025 set the stage for a transformative year by placing logistics and infrastructure at the center of the government's economic priorities. With an allocation of Rs 1.5 lakh crore dedicated to multimodal integration, the government shifted decisively from isolated infrastructure projects to synchronised, digitally driven development.
