Wildlife poaching in North West a serious concern

The poaching of game, in all its forms, has become an extremely serious problem in North West.

This includes hunting with dogs, traps and snares, and rifles. Speaking to Farmer's Weekly, Naudé Pienaar, CEO of Agri North West, said the incidences of game poaching in the province were increasing at an alarming rate. He ascribed this to, among other factors, the poor economy forcing people to poach wildlife in order to put food on the table, and people who poached to sell the meat as part of the bush meat trade.

“The biggest problem we have is unscrupulous dog owners who trespass on private land with packs of dogs. They hunt anything from small game, such as hares, duikers, and steenbok, to bigger antelope like eland and sable antelope.
