Theft of horsebox wheels: an ongoing problem

When thieves broke in at her farm recently, they came well prepared with the right tools to forcibly remove locknuts on wheels, says Dr Mac.

In April, during full moon, a group of competent criminals arrived on my farm and stole six of the wheels off my two horseboxes.

It was possibly an inside job, as all the wheels of the vehicles owned by farm employees remained in place.

The unwelcome night visitors also broke down the wall and door of my tackroom and managed to turn everything that was inside upside down.

Fortunately they did not steal the saddles, perhaps because we ride western and the saddles are heavy.

However, they tried to steal the refrigerator, managing to drag it about 200m.

This rough treatment did not improve its inner workings: it is now leaking badly and making funny noises.

The refrigerated contents were mainly injectable medicines that were scattered on the floor. As they were no longer being kept refrigerated they had to be discarded, although very expensive to replace.
