As a means to boost farming and provide water to Eastern Cape communities, the Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) has rolled out cost-effective spring water projects in the province.
Minister Nonkqubela Pieters and Chris Hani District Municipality mayor Lusanda Sizani officially handed over a spring water project recently, set to benefit five villages in the Manzana area outside eNgcobo, that have been struggling to access clean, safe drinking water.
Pieters, speaking during the official handover of a spring water project for more than 380 Zweledinga village households in Whittlesea, said the delivery of spring water projects marks the completion of infrastructure work done by the department in a number of rural communities in the Eastern Cape that will now have reliable access to clean, fresh water as part of the implementation of the province's rural development programme.
