'Love for agriculture' will guide new head of Agri Enterprises

Pieter de Jager was recently elected CEO of Agri Enterprises. He spoke to Magda du Toit about his plans for the company.
Since completing his articles as a chartered accountant at PwC in the late 1990s, Pieter de Jager, the new chief executive officer of Agri Enterprises, has been involved in the agriculture sector in various roles.
He boasts more than 20 years’ involvement in agriculture as a producer, management consultant and in finances.
He joined Agri Enterprises early in 2023 with extensive experience in financial and agricultural management, commercial strategy development, due diligence as well as in feasibility studies in agriculture across Africa.
De Jager has been the acting CEO of Agri Enterprises since May 2023, but has recently been confirmed as the company’s new CEO.
What triggered your interest in agriculture?
After getting married and completing my CA(SA) articles with PwC, my father-in-law offered us the opportunity to join him in the family business in Hluhluwe, farming pineapples and cattle. Since then, I have always been involved in agriculture and have been privileged to experience the sector from different angles. Suffice to say that my passion for the agriculture sector runs deep.
