A great evening spanning decades of innovation

We have an IT legacy that goes back to the 1970s. We have built up all the foundation stones in the last decade or so. There's nothing stopping us from being an AI superpower by 2047. Sunil Rajguru looks into an evening that featured the stalwarts of the game.

Vinod Dham completed his degree from the Delhi College of Engineering and joined Continental Devices in 1971. That was a rare Indian semiconductor startup. He then headed to the US for his MS degree at the University of Cincinnati. After helping NCR Corporation get a patent on “mixed dielectric process and non-volatile memory device” he joined Intel and achieved great fame there. The 586 microprocessor was so revolutionary as compared to the 486, that it was called the Penitum and changed global computing 1993 onwards. Dham earned the title “Father of the Pentium chip”. He then joined NexGen, which was acquired by AMD. The AMD K6 was launched in 1997 was nicknamed the “Pentium Killer” and had Dham’s stamp all over it. After many stints he became Managing Director and Founder of Indo-US Venture Partners. A Padma Bhushan awardee, Dham is advisor to India’s Semiconductor Mission. Dham could well help us boost domestic chip manufacturing and make us self-reliant in chip manufacturing as part of Mission2047, more than 50 years after his stint with an Indian chip startup!
