There are runways known for being short, others for their bumps, and some notorious for crosswinds, but here's a new concern for anxious flyers: an ice runway.

In an extraordinary aviation milestone, Norse Atlantic Airways accomplished a groundbreaking feat by successfully landing a Boeing 787 Dreamliner on an ice runway in Antarctica. This event unfolded at Troll Airfield, a unique 3,000-meter-long and 60-metre-wide strip meticulously carved from snow and ice. Significantly, this marks the first instance of a widebody aircraft, boasting the capacity for up to 330 passengers depending on the configuration, making contact with the sixth continent.
