Ball mills are among the most common features on a mine's processing circuit. Used in the comminution stage of mineral processing, the mill is filled with grinding media such as steel balls. As the mill rotates, the balls collide with the ore to break it down into smaller pieces.

While the process might sound relatively simple, the humble ball mill can cause some major problems for miners. The balls are susceptible to the same wear and tear as many other machine parts, and over time some chips or fragments may come loose and recirculate through the mill. These chips occupy space that could otherwise be used for added ore.

Seeing these problems, Eriez Australia knew there was a simple solution it could present to the market: the trunnion magnet system.

The system bolts directly to the ball mill discharge flange and provides continuous magnetic collection and removal of the chips and fragments, discharging them to the collection hopper.
