With the hint of summer in the air we’ve been thinking about open cars here at Spotted, and specifically Speedsters. Not the older air-cooled models, but rather the 991 Speedster. Enough to ponder why this recent limited number (just 1,948 were built), opentopped GT product seems to be largely ignored in preference to other 911 derivatives.
A look through the classifieds demonstrates exactly that. Search in price from high to low and you’ll find innumerable 992 GT3 RSs, a lot of 991 GT2 RSs, a good number of 992 Sport Classics as well as some investor-grade classics. You’ll be scrolling a while before you reach any 991 Speedsters, though. Part of that is down to the relatively low build numbers for it, but persevere to the price point of around £300,000 and you’ll find a thin seam of Speedster choices between those plentiful models listed above, and a sizeable substrate of 911 Dakars below. The one pictured here is for sale at Ashgood Classic and Sportscars for £299,995, and we’d buy it in a heartbeat.
