AUTO-SLEEPERS ACTIVE FG635

A versatile family campervan with a big kitchen and clever washroom, this model would also make a good daily driver, says Peter Baber

Auto-Sleepers' Active range was introduced last year as a campervan range that's firmly focused on the family. All three models in the range have an MTPLM of 3500kg, so can be driven by anyone, and have four travel seats; although the popup roof that gets you four berths is a £6000 optional extra.

The FL635, which has fixed single beds, impressed our judges enough to win the 'Best campervan for a family of four' category in last year's Practical Motorhome Awards. But for our review here we've chosen the FG635 - it's the same length (6.36m) as the FL635, but has a transverse bed at the end.

One thing you notice as soon as you climb in and slide the door shut is how well tinted the side and rear windows on an Auto-Sleepers campervan are.

The passenger seat in the standard Fiat cab swivels around, but the driver seat does not. In fact, the back of it doubles up as the backrest for the rearward-facing seat in the front dinette. This is not as uncomfortable as it might look - in fact, it does wonders for your posture!
