48 HOURS IN HEBDEN BRIDGE
Practical Motorhome
|Summer 2025
Hebden Bridge, a small former mill town near Halifax in West Yorkshire, has quietly been gaining a reputation as a perfect spot for a weekend break that combines hill walking with craft shopping - and some ace cafés and pubs to boot.

Being the setting for popular recent TV series Happy Valley has probably helped boost its popularity too - but despite that, for the moment at least, it remains an unspoiled corner of the country that is just waiting for you to discover. (And I should know - I've lived here for the past 25 years.)
DAY 1
10am Going to town
Assuming you are staying at the Caravan and Motorhome Club's site in Cragg Vale - the nearest proper caravan park to the town - your best option, given current parking restrictions, is to walk into town. Head down the road into Mytholmroyd, then either along the canal or along a wooded riverside path that is so charming it is easy to forget that the River Calder is the second-most polluted river in England. If that 45-minute walk seems too long, you can take a bus - the 901 from Cragg Vale (once an hour) or the 591, 592 or 593, from Mytholmroyd. You can also take the train; one stop from Mytholmroyd to a station that has frequently been used as a location for Victorian TV dramas.

11am Morning coffee
After that walk you might need some refreshment. Fortunately Hebden is stacked full of cafés. You should have a choice of at least a dozen. (There are even a couple in Mytholmroyd too, if you feel you need to stop somewhere en route.)
