NEW BENCHMARK IN THE 125CC COMMUTER SEGMENT?

- WORDS CHRISTOPHER CHAVES

HERO GLAMOUR X 125

To say Hero MotoCorp’s new offering in the 125cc commuter space has caused a stir would be a bit of an understatement. The Hero Glamour X isn’t exactly revolutionary, yet, but it aims to set a new benchmark for what can be expected from a commuter motorcycle in this segment. When you think of the 125cc category, the usual suspects—simple, no-frills commuters come to mind, right? Well, the Glamour X is here to change the game, and it comes packed with tech and features we never thought we'd see in a motorcycle of this calibre.

imageAt a glance, the Hero Glamour 125 may appear familiar to anyone who’s seen the older model or any other 125cc commuter out there. But don’t be fooled. While the design is mostly conservative, it’s the technology under the skin that really shines. The standout feature, of course, is the segment-first cruise control. It’s not something we expected to see on a commuter bike of this size, but Hero has decided to raise the bar. And, there’s more where that came from.

The Glamour X is available in two variants—the drum brake variant and the higher-spec disc brake version. The model we're testing here comes with a front disc brake and 18-inch wheels at both ends, though Hero has omitted ABS, which is a bit of a head-scratcher given that the government has hinted at mandatory ABS for motorcycles in this category starting next year. The absence of ABS on a bike with such advanced features feels like an oversight, especially given the growing importance of safety.
