TVS gives Norton the backbone for a proper comeback, and the Manx R is its first real swing at the modern superbike elite

- WORDS ROHIT PARADKAR

2026 NORTON MANX R

TVS now owns Norton.

TVS is a household name in our country, but Norton - not so much. In India, say Norton and most people will think of a message box that sat quietly in the corner of a Windows PC asking for subscription renewals.

imageSay Norton to motorcyclists though, and it changes the conversation. Long before that name became office-computer furniture, Norton was one of the great British motorcycle marques, with its curling script logo - founded in 1898, forged at the Isle of Man TT, and tied to machines like the Manx, Commando and Featherbed-frame racers. Proper names with proper history. The kind that smell of oil and leather gloves.

But history is a dangerous thing. It can give a brand weight, but it can also become an anchor. And Norton knows this better than most.

With this motorcycle, Norton is reviving the Manx nameplate. It is a brave move, but this is not just another handsome British motorcycle wearing an old badge and hoping everyone gets emotional. This is the first proper statement from the TVS-owned Norton. A 1200cc V4 superbike aimed straight at Ducati, Aprilia and BMW. Which, frankly, is a bit like returning to school after a long absence and picking a fight with the three biggest boys in class.

That is also why this motorcycle matters to us in India. TVS now owns Norton, and there is genuine pride in seeing an Indian manufacturer backing one of Britain's oldest motorcycle marques. But this is not a chest-thumping, flag-waving exercise. What matters more is what TVS brings in - money, scale, supplier strength, software depth, world-class manufacturing and access to global markets.
